Concept, design and calligraphy for Bowman School. Bowman is a year-round school located in Palo Alto, California that incorporates the Montessori principles of individualized learning.
Bowman School needed an ongoing collection of cards to thank donors, volunteers and parents. Since the school expects to require new cards designed regularly, we needed a concept that's visually attractive, communicates Bowman's core message and principles and is easily scalable while maintaining aesthetic consistency.
Initially I explored a variety of themes relying heavily on illustration, before deciding to focus on text only.
After establishing a set of three motivational quotes, each one was drawn on paper, scanned and traced by hand to keep a crisp finish without loosing the warmth hand-crafted lettering has.
